Press release, May 2022

Ladder Space invites artist Marina Dubia for the coming show Glitched Belongings, which will feature a series of new performance documentation works and a special guided performance that encourages guests to explore their boundaries.

On Friday 27th we start with the performance arriscame at 16h (please sign-up, more info below), followed by an opening with food and drinks at 18h. The show can be visited over the weekend.

Glitched Belongings is a collection of earnest experiments that paw and gnaw at the idea of belonging through strategies of visibility and materialized relations. The desire for a definite identity lingers in subjectivity, yet life takes shape attuning toward, through and with-in a certain ecology of relations. In these works, Dubia hopes to peel and enhance some of the weaved layers of being; with special attention to the “profession”, the “home” and the “body”.

arriscame is a guided performance where we propose to share and research our own boundaries, together. During the event, participants will be asked to go through a series of conversations and physical exercises. We will start with self-massage, talk about calluses of the skin and of the heart, and attempt to weave everyone in the room through open, earnest conversation, and – to materialize these connections – thread and needle. Our sense of self is neatly tied by the boundary of the skin: What does it allow to come in? What do I allow to come in? How do my boundaries shape relations to myself and others? What happens when I make myself available to challenge these limits? What can pass and move, that couldn’t before?

The desire to share, live together, to be open and vulnerable, can often be an uncomfortable one. Every step of the evening will be presented clearly, and participants are welcome to support the action as an observer. We hope to create a safe, playful and provocative space that stimulates critical reflection and togetherness. And, of course, will tie everything together with music & good food.
