The Curator is the Weather
Organised by SixtyEight Art Institute
1-9 October, 2020

SixtyEight Art Institute is pleased to announce that the fourth edition of The Curatorial Thing, which this year has the theme The Curator is the Weather, will be held from 1-9 October as planned.

The Curatorial Thing will be asking how the attention of artists and curators to issues such as climate change and new technologies can contribute to a more nuanced understanding of how science and technology can approach the building of a future of mutual relations, taking into account the continual evolution of human nature in and with the natural world. To this end we have been organising a programme of workshops for the 14 chosen participants as well as evening lectures, which will open to the public, and that will be held at the Social Sciences Faculty Library of Copenhagen University (Det Samfundsvidenskabelige Fakultetsbibliotek) at Gothersgade next to the Botanical Gardens.

The open lectures will be held on Friday 2nd, and on the 6th, 7th and 8th of October.

We are looking forward to presenting an array of speakers from various backgrounds in the arts and curating, who have been engaging with issues related to the climate. In addition, our publishing arm RSS Press will during the same days be launching a number of publications related to the themes.

Overview of Workshops and Evening Lectures
This year’s workshops and open evening lectures will include contributions from and conversations with: Peter Brandt, Jeppe Ugelvig, Ilethia Sharp, Line Ellegaard, Jessica Bennett, Oscar Salguero, Lehman Brothers, Heidi Hart, Tereza Záchová, Henrik Lübker, Caterina Avataneo, Sidsel Nelund, Superflex, Rasmus Nielsen; and other science and culture professionals to be confirmed.

New book releases and Site Visits
We will be launching new books by Peter Brandt and Lehman Brothers published by Really Simple Syndication Press and undertaking site visits to key places in the city of Copenhagen, researching climate collapse or related issues through artistic strategies and interventions. The Curatorial Thing (4th Edition) is being organised/led by Hugo Hopping and Christopher Sand-Iversen for SixtyEight Art Institute.

A complete programme of our free lecture series will be made available by 20 September; to help audiences preregister for public attendance via Eventbrite, and to help regulate the Covid-19 Restrictions set by the Danish Health Authorities. Live streaming will be offered to registered members of the public.

Save the Date: Evening Talk Series: 2, 6, 7, and 8 of October, from 18 to 21.
At the Social Sciences Faculty Library of Copenhagen University.
