Maj Kjærsigs første soloudstilling i København er en totalinstallation, bestående af en monumental hængende lydmur og kolapsende lydpiedestal. Installationen består af keramik i vibrerende sarte farver, metalkroge og inkorporerede højtalere. Konstruktionerne afspiller et arrangement inspireret af popmusikkens strukturer, som titlen også refererer til i koder. Her høres æteriske og følsomme knitrende stemninger med trapstyle beat, synthesizer og vokal af rumvæsens-lignende karakter.

Kjærsigs skulpturer og installationer udspringer fra en fascination og håbløshed over popmusikkens catchy og ensformige natur. I hendes eksperimenterende og intuitive tilgang til medier, stræber hun efter at skubbe grænserne for materialernes egenskaber. Det sker ofte igennem undersøgelser hvor materialerne opløses, smadres, dekonstrueres og sammensmeltes.

Maj Kjærsig er uddannet fra Det Fynske Kunstakademi i 2016 med udveksling i Berlin hos Vinyl- Terror & -Horror. Hun har udstillet på Sydhavn Station, Brandts Klædefabrik, Cobrarummet, Den Frie Udstillingsbygning og performet med lydsamarbejdet Duo Demona på Overgaden, Kunsthal Aarhus, Mayhem, Cph Artweek og Radar. Hun har modtaget arbejdslegater fra Statens Kunstfond i 2018 og 2019.

Udstillingen er støttet af Statens Kunstfond.

Maj Kjærsig's first solo exhibition in Copenhagen is a total installation, consisting of a monumental hanging sound wall and collapsing sound pedestal. The installation consists of ceramic in vibrant delicate colors, metal hooks and incorporated speakers. The constructions play an arrangement inspired by the structures of pop music, to which the title also refers in codes. Here you will hear ethereal and sensitive crackling moods with trapstyle beat, synthesizer and alien-like vocals.

Kjærsig's sculptures and installations originate from a fascination and hopelessness over the catchy and monotonous nature of pop music. In her experimental and intuitive approach to media, she strives to push the boundaries of material properties. This is often done through studies where the materials are dissolved, smashed, deconstructed and merged.

Maj Kjærsig graduated from Funen Academy of Fine Arts in 2016 with exchange in Berlin at Vinyl- Terror & -Horror. She has exhibited at Sydhavn Station, Brandts, Cobra-rummet, Den Frie Udstillingsbygning and performed with the sound collaboration Duo Demona at Overgaden, Kunsthal Aarhus, Mayhem, Cph Artweek and Radar. She has received work grants from the Danish Arts Foundation in 2018 and 2019.

The exhibition is supported by the Danish Arts Foundation.
