Javier Alvarez Sagredo, Baby. Still.

Press Release, January 2021

aeon
noun

1.  an indefinite and very long period of time.

We are hereby happy to announce our second exhibition opening on January 6, 2022.

AEON is a screen in a window of the night club Jolene. The screen will be on air all hours of the day, always for everyone forever. This means that the exhibited pieces will be looping both on a quiet afternoon outside the opening hours of Jolene, as well as on a busy saturday night with never ending queues in front of the window. The eternal loop of the films at our exhibitions will connect to future films and thereby create a long abstract narrative in an eternal exhibition that could go on for aeons. Every first Thursday of the month we will host a vernissage of a new piece.

Javier Alvarez Sagredo “Baby”
For our second exhibition we will be showing Javier Alvarez Sagredo’s piece Baby. A Swedish elk in its natural habitat experiences lucid dreaming one night. The dream evolves into a nightmare where the creature has been morphed into a human being that suffers from repressed memories. Baby is a 4-minute silent film composed of stock footage imagery. Dedicated as a poetic reflection on topics such as: wildlife, criminality, segregation, parenthood, metanoia and hope.

A narration with found and closeup imagery of a crying eye, gun shot, ghetto, drug deal, poisonous frog, chameleon, barb wire, ayahuasca and newborn. This activates an associative and experimental space from the cultural ties between Latin America and Scandinavia, providing a psychological and material study on the concept of trauma stemming from exile and violence.

Javier Alvarez Sagredo (b. 1994) is a Chilean-Swedish multidisciplinary artist. Their practice is based on a continuous search for an aesthetic language that deals with concepts in the field of social and political philosophy. Javier’s artistic work investigates the framework of storytelling. It’s a critical observation towards the traditions of contemporary art and its relation to statelessness, alienation and noise. Orchestrating personal experiences with material, rhythm and echo in still image.

Best,
AEON
