Press release, April 2022
After three years of studies at the BFA programme at HDK-Valand we, the graduating students, present fifthteen individual works of art in the exhibition Rugged Terrain / Confident Stride. Our art works at Konstepidemin address concepts such as digitalism’s relationship to identity, human’s position in nature and the gallery space as a tool for quality assurance.
Our studies at HDK-Valand have been impacted by the corona pandemic. The majority of the education has been via distance teaching, and this has had an impact on our artistic practices. But despite times of isolation the situation has generated a strong connection between us students. In the studio, in zoom meetings and in our lunch corner we have been depending on our common gazes, thoughts and conversations in order to achieve persistent progress in our artistic practices. The title of the exhibition refers to this persistent progress and can be seen as an approach to the uncertainty we experienced during our studies but also to the complex art world that we now face together.
