Press release, August 2022
Shopping spree (noun)
a short period of time that you spend doing one particular activity that you enjoy
but often too much of, such as shopping
SHOPPING SPREE is a group exhibition and site for common connection and reflection in a time of severe economic uncertainty. Specifically inspired by the space and location of inter.pblc, the exhibition takes on the colorful language of commercial shopping as a medium for aesthetic contemplation. SHOPPING SPREE revisits the notion previously posed by Pop Art in the 1960s, and questions the distinction between art objects and commercial products in a contemporary framework. By including and integrating furniture and modes of display usually found in supermarkets and commercial stores, SHOPPING SPREE reflects on everyday life and our relationship to art, consumer culture - and ourselves.
SHOPPING SPREE presents works by Emilie Bobek, Dan Brown Brønlund, Sofie Burgaard, Esben Holk and Victor Rankanen, many made specifically for the context of SHOPPING SPREE.
SHOPPING SPREE is curated by Christine Due & Marie Vinther, and realized in collaboration with inter.pblc.
