Press Release, February 2021

Students in their second year of Fine Art at HDK-Valand are inviting you to the group exhibition Can we take this offline? We present separate works with the common denominator being the collaboration necessary to grow and evolve as a group of artists in training.

We are in the midst of an all-encompassing societal change, where spaces we once knew are suddenly not what they used to be. We navigate in risk-assessed, empty echoing rooms. This is due in part to the pandemic – but society is always moving in some direction, twisting and changing shape. Art finds its way into the voids and the in-betweens. The exhibition takes place in a former bank, where spatial conditions are currently under transformation, but traces of what once was are still there. The terms of collaboration are also going through a metamorphosis – being conducted in a digital fashion, but now manifesting in a physical form. What happens with the traces left in this case? A space is not defined by its designated purpose, but by the individuals that inhabit it. We ask: Can We Take This Offline? Forming a question that expresses the desire to talk informally, outside of protocol and monitoring.
