“OUR ANTHOLOGY” – A CERAMIC EXHIBITION BEYOND BORDERS

Can a group exhibition be more than a gathering of artworks? Can it nurture cultural and creative exchange, can it lead to new friendships or even build community? Artists Inkyong Lee and Laura Godsk Vestergaard aim to do exactly that with Our Anthology – a traveling exhibition that brings together 14 ceramic artists from Korea and Denmark. In this video you can follow the process from Seoul to Middelfart and hear Inkyong and Laura share their thoughts and experiences.

It wasn’t until their final year at The Royal Danish Academy – Crafts in Glass and Ceramics in Bornholm, that Inkyong and Laura became close friends. During the pandemic they started bonding over things that had previously kept them from forming a deeper connection – such as their age gap, family life and cultural differences. After graduating, their conversations continued and they wondered how to maintain and extend friendships and a sense of community in an industry often dictated by solitude and competition. Their thoughts led them to curate the group exhibition Our Anthology that not only brings together 14 ceramic artists from Korea and Denmark, but also travels between Seoul, Middelfart and Copenhagen.

“I believe that ceramicists can communicate beyond borders or any other restrictions for that matter,” writes Jongjin Park (Assistant Professor, Seoul Women’s University) in the exhibition catalogue. She is accompanied by Inkyong and Laura’s former teacher Nina Erichsen (Head of Programme, The Royal Danish Academy – Crafts in Glass and Ceramics), who poetically adds:

“We share so many things as humans expressing ourselves through ceramic craftsmanship. We share so many things as human beings. We share in coming together now and always.”
