Moi qui veut sentir le souffle de ce qui me dépasse
(Me who wants to feel the breath of what is beyond me)

The project explores states of being through a collection of characters that are both archetypal and individualized. Each situation showcase inner experiences; reflecting states of clarity or confusion and transcending the limits of language and rational thought to touch more enigmatic areas.

Virginie Jemmely is a multidisciplinary fashion designer-artist. Through her drawings, her installations, her sound patchwork, her collections of clothing and accessories presented in the form of installation and/or performances; she questions the construction, deconstruction or reconstruction of our identities; through contradictory states of being, torn between the need to be oneself and the desire to be others, between the need for validation and the search for personal fulfillment. She underlines this constant interplay between violence and political correctness, between fusion and confrontation, between what is shown and what is hidden, between insolence and modesty.

Virginie Jemmely (Switzerland 1993) holds a Bachelor and a Master of Fashion Design & Accessories from HEAD, Geneva, CH. Her work has been exhibited at Wallstreet, Fri Art Kunsthalle, Fribourg, CH. Hit, Forde, Espace Topic, Centre d’art Contemporain, Geneva, CH. Krone Couronne, Biel, CH. Messe Halle, Basel, CH. Erg Gallery, Bruxelles, BE. Lafayette Anticipations, The community, Paris, FR. In 2020 she won the price from 1 Granary “Designer to hire: 2020”, London, Swiss Design Awards in Fashion & Textile, 2020, Basel and Les bourses de la ville de Genève Berthoud Lissignol-Chevalier & Galland, 2022, Geneva.
