Inside the 250 year old military bunker, architects SANO // SachsNottveit and artists/designers Wang & Söderström presents a collaborative exhibition to explore the human perceptions.

Through a site specific spatial installation, SANO offers an architectural guided tour between lightness and darkness. A curated experience into the unknown where the senses alternate and adapts to the dissimilar environment. The 200+ objects presented is a collection of Wang & Söderström’s new and old sculptural work from 2017-2018. The digital models have been embodied through 3D printing, highlighting the traces of the specific technique and blurring the border between the digital and the physical.

Sensation and perception
How do we navigate in a dark space? When visual outlines dissolve, every movement becomes a question. Can I go here? What is this object? Is there someone else in here? A room has to be felt, listened to. As our vision takes a back seat, we are faced with our vulnerability, and potential danger, and in the dark, our other senses make us aware of the safety that light and reliance on visual perception brings.

We live in a world of contrasts and diversity, and we have five senses that cannot reach their full potential, until we see light contrasted by darkness and the material by the immaterial.

Concretion and abstraction
The human experience of reality is dependent on a constant comparison of objects. In relating those objects to one another, we create endless chains that structure our surroundings. The relationship between human and matter, be it emotional, tactile or visual, is what gives the world its sizes and scales, its tactility and soul. Does an object have structure until touched, or color until looked upon?

Yet in the midst of the tangible world, there is another reality, and like the physical world surrounds us, it seems to be surrounded by us. The digital is contained within the shells of our computers, phones, robots and gadgets, and controlled by our hands. Through them, a link between the physical world and an immaterial flow of information and audiovisual impressions is formed.

SANO // SACHSNOTTVEIT

SANO // SachsNottveit is an Architectural office located in Copenhagen which work within the field of Architecture, Craft and Installation Art. SANO consists of Carl Theodor Sachs and Anders Blindheim Nottveit. They are interested in the intersection between architecture, culture, history, technology and environment. In this cross section arises the possibility of an architecture which can contribute and spawn life into new and old stories in the area where it is located.

Believing that a strong focus on site specific design is necessary to create great architecture that can accompany us into the future and by repurposing traditional materials and techniques, SANO creates their own niche within architecture.

WANG & SÖDERSTRÖM

Wang & Söderström is an art and design practice based in Copenhagen with a focus on digital/physical explorations and fabrication. They strive to create mind tickling and unexpected experiences through materiality and technology.

Wang & Söderström is comprised of spatial/furniture designer Anny Wang and architect Tim Söderström. Soon after the pair begun collaborating, their experience of 3D software grew into an artistic practice that broke the boundaries of their respective disciplines and extended across the borders of art and design. The unexpected experiences the duo strive to create can be found in the experiences of something ostensibly well-known, something one recognises from the real world that suddenly feels warped. Where a small detail makes you question what you are seeing and by extension, how you are perceiving the world.
