Galleri Christoffer Egelund kan med stor stolthed præsentere udstillingen Twillight, som galleriets første soloudstilling med den tyske kunstner Daniel M. Thurau, som bor og arbejde i Berlin.
Thurau arbejder æstetisk med en stærkt defineret stil, som forholder sig til den maleriske kunsthistorie og kan lede tankerne hen på Edvard Munchs følelsesladede landskaber eller Gauguins farverige motiver. Samtidig bevæger den sig fuldstændigt frit og eksperimenterende. De farvestærke malerier arbejder i kontrasterne mellem ironi og alvor, og det er netop i kontrasterne vi finder titlen, Twilight, Tusmørke.
Udover at referere til værkernes flygtige lyshåndtering hentyder Twilight også til et tærskeløjeblik, overgangen fra én tilstand til en anden. Thurau lader himmellegemerne og planeterne tage farverig form i sine værker og alt syntes at eksistere i den flygtige skumringstime, hvor lyset er diffust og alting muligt. I grænselandet imellem dyb nat og sprudlende dag finder vi også den kreative proces.
For Daniel M. Thurau er skabelsesprocessen en flygtig og uhåndgribelig handling, netop som skumringslyset. Kunsten er i sin natur ikke noget som er, men i højere grad en proces kunstneren kan få til at ske. Kunstneren er således et skumringsvæsen, som bevæger sig imellem verdener og vover at drømme om fastholdelsen af det der ikke lader sig fastholde.
Daniel M. Thurau levede som autodidakt kunstner før han blev udannet fra Norwich University of the Arts i England og College of Fine Arts i Hamburg. Hans arbejde er blevet udstillet internationalt og på kunstmesser som Art Fair Frankfurt og VIENNAFAIR. Senest har han kunnet opleves på Künstlerhaus Bethanien i Lohne og Kunstverein Wassermühle i Berlin.
Galleri Christoffer Egelund inviterer til åbningen af udstillingen Twillight fredag den 2. februar, fra kl. 16-19, hvor kunstneren vil være tilstede.

Galleri Christoffer Egelund is very proud to presenting Twilight, the gallery’s first solo exhibition with the German artist Daniel M Thurau who lives and works in Berlin.
The strongly pronounced style of Thurau, is rooted deeply in art history and might draw the mind to the emotional landscapes of Edward Munch or the colourful motifs of Gauguin, while at the same time freely experimenting with the form. His vibrant paintings focus on the contrast between the ironic and the earnest; and it is in these contrasts we find the motive for the title, Twilight.
Besides referencing the handling of volatile light within the work, Twilight, also alludes to a threshold, the moment of transition from one condition to another. Thurau allows celestial bodies to take colourful form in his work and all seems to exist in the fickle hour of twilight, where the light is capricious and anything is possible. The process of creating, too, resides in these transcending borders of deep night and gleaming day. For Daniel M. Thurau, painting is as elusive and fleeting an act as twilight itself. Art, in it’s nature, is not something that is, but rather something that becomes, something that happens. The artist is a creature of the twilight, one who moves between worlds and dares to dream of claiming the ephemeral.
