Hello hello. We are embarking on a collaborative project in the new year and are looking for an exhibition space to show the final work. Below are the short form details:
Who are we?
Gabriel Nigri (1996 BR/PT) and Gabriella Gormley (1998 UK) are individual artists who mostly work within ceramics, coming together as an artist duo for the first time. Gabriel trained in Architecture in Rio de Janeiro and moved to Denmark as an assistant at Guldagergaard International Ceramics Centre. Here he met Gabriella who was also working as an assistant after completing a bachelor in ceramics at The Royal Danish Academy – Crafts in Glass & Ceramics, Bornholm.
What's the project?
Starting in the beginning of 2024, the project 'DUO DUO' comes off the back of receiving the unique opportunity to inhabit the studio of Hans (SE, 1932) and Birgitte Börjeson (DK, 1937) in Fulby, Sorø. As an acclaimed artist duo themselves with a custom built studio and rich library of work and tests, we will seek inspiration from this fertile ground. We hope for the work to embody some of the character and colour of their work whilst speaking to themes of coming together, transference and collective inheritance.
Visions for the exhibition;
In terms of the exhibition, we envisage an interconnected ensemble of objects that form a cohesive installation piece. Taking lead from their impressive and playful furniture works we intend to work with the kitchen table as a conceptual base. Bringing character to each part of this work we hope the piece will embody the themes and ideas mentioned above. Aware that this project must be responsive to our location and the techniques we inherit, the specific nature of the work is limited to these preliminary ideas and inspiration from the works of Hans and Birgitte.
