Press release, April 2024

We are looking forward to the collective exhibition *yawn* with Stefan Bakmand, Mads Borre, Mikkel Carlsen, Anders Hjortdal Andersen, Mikkel Høgh Kaldal, Cilla Leitao and Lucie Payoux.

HAMM: Do you not think this has gone on long enough?
CLOV: Yes! (Pause.) What?
HAMM: This... this... thing.
CLOV: I've always thought so. (Pause.) You not?
HAMM (gloomily): Then it's a day like any other day.
CLOV: As long as it lasts. (Pause.)

– “Endgame” (1957) by Samuel Beckett.

The characters of “Endgame” by Samuel Beckett are waiting for the end in an absurd stretching of time. Through irony, the play becomes an empty space where nothing happens. For Hamm and Clov, yawning emphasizes their absence from this world, as they are clearly bored but not looking forward to anything either. In this way, yawning becomes a transitory movement as well as a twisting of their sense of now.

Through a soft dive into a subconscious state or a terrifying descent to a hallucinatory phase, closing our eyes becomes a journey among reality and dreams. As minutes grow into years, the awakening leaves us emptied. This exhibition will place itself as a transitory chapter as it will end the 2023/24 program of Cantina. Far from a common theme, *yawn* has led us to reflect on this past year in nuances of dark humor and enthusiasm towards what will come next.

This collective show will display works from the curators of Cantina and members of Corporum studio collective. Cantina is an exhibition space intimately attached to Corporum, as the artist studios are next door and its program has been produced and curated by members of Corporum. Furthermore, Cantina and Corporum are both focusing on giving opportunities to young artists within the Danish art scene.
