Press release, July 2019
Visual strategies are investigating physical- and mental states of fatigue, exhaustion, overtime, overwork and breakdowns, which are manifested in signs of fragility, transparency, hollowness, broken glass and allusions to anthropomorphic shapes. Thoughts are revolving around the theory of ‘The Burnout Society’*, where humans are rendered ‘achievement-subjects’ that perform self-exploitative labor (in their own freelance enterprises), and while empty energy-beverages are accumulating inside the space a video-work is playing on a loop: An actor / dancer is reenacting a YouTube video about ‘a woman’s spiritual journey through a burnout’. * Byung-Chul Han, Müdigkeitsgesellschaft (2010)
Vernissage: Friday the 5th of July, 6-10pm | Facebook event
