Press release, May 2018

Nothing is true, everything is alive.
Prologue: Symbiogenesis.

Carlos Monleón, Carlos Fernández-Pello.
Curator: Julia Morandeira Arrizabalaga.

Some organisms — such as lichens, scobys, or slime molds — perform fascinating symbiotic ways of being in the world. They operate through forms of relational nourishment, guided by sensibility and sensation. They experiment with distributed organisation, working through decentralized spatial intelligence and incessant bacterial activity. Potentially immortal, they navigate thick temporalities, in which care and death get mutually configured.

This exhibition explores symbiogenesis, or practices that make worlds through these symbiotic processes, from a manifold perspective: as a viscous creative force, refiguring textures, materials and aesthetics; as a contagious working structure between artists, curator and space; and as a narrative stance from where to speculate co-evolutive and careful forms of world making.

Artists: Carlos Monleón, Carlos Fernández-Pello.
Curator: Julia Morandeira Arrizabalaga.

Opening: Fri 25. May (18:00–21:00).
Exhibition period: 25 May–21 July 2018.
