Pressemeddelelse, april 2019
Flesh of Software shows mixed media stills from a manifestation of software into the physical reality which took place in San Pedro, California earlier this year. These images of the flesh-like and flesh-made happenings acquire an extended existence through image processing made possible from a borrowed motherboard. Mirroring the flesh in every aspect of our human landscape and our role as monitors of the human condition, the reflections are created as scores for our universal operating system.
Freyja Eilíf is a visual artist born in 1986 and based in Reykjavík, Iceland and the director of Ekkisens Art Space since 2014. She earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 2014 from the Iceland Academy of the Arts and has exhibited her work internationally, in Los Angeles, Berlin, Hamburg, Tromsö, Tallinn, Rovaniemi and Leicester. Eilíf’s work explores ideas from post-internet, post-humanism and mystical sciences, through operations of visual manifestations into other realms of existence.
In this process, Eilíf has developed an intimate relationship with her own software, as a way to connect with her computer’s spirit. She uses the mind as a tool to examine different contingencies, in addition to various mediums such as, video, installation, sculpture and painting that document sensorial experiences from multiple dimensions. These mixed media works are frequently site specifically installed, as an attempt to create harmony between the renderings perceived at each time.
