My name is Sofia Hydman and I’m a Swedish graphic designer, living in Stockholm and creating GIFs in my spare time.
My work is whimsical and cheeky with a feminist touch. Chubby, confident girls are my favorite thing to draw and I prefer them nude in all their glory. I also have a thing for sad boys. I don’t know why I like it when guys cry, I just do, so I make them. Literally. I find my inspiration on Instagram. I follow a bunch of talented people and my biggest drive is jealousy. I work with my illustrated GIFs at home, late nights after work or during weekends. I sit on my bed, crooked like a cheese doodle, with my Wacom and Mac. While working on an illustration I feel calm and concentrated, it’s a state of mind I’m longing for when I’m stressed out about something.
I tend to follow my gut and what I feel is funny, interesting or plain pretty in the critical moment of inspiration. Other times I just remember that I love The Beatles or that I’m just stunned by how awesome Sailor Moon is, so I pay a little tribute. It’s a project I do entirely for my own sake, for the fun of it and for some GIF-fame. I used to work in advertising, now I’m at a design agency in Stockholm, it’s a privilege to work with design but I soon realized that I needed a project that was entirely my own. I needed something quick and dirty where I could call all the shots, so I found my chubby chicks and I’m totally in love.
