CHART 2016: GALLERI NICOLAI WALLNER

In 1993 Nicolai Wallner formed his gallery together with a collective of artists and friends, many of whom he is still representing. His strong relationship to the artists, devoted engagement and hard work has ensured him international recognition and a place on the top of the danish gallery scene.

His gallery is situated in the garages of the former Carlsberg Brewery in the outskirts of Vesterbro. With an exhibition area counting 800 square metres Galleri Nicolai Wallner is Copenhagen’s largest commercial gallery and the presented shows are always striving to reach the same quality as museum exhibitions. Nicolai’s ambitions are high and it might be exactly what has placed him on Art Review’s Power 100-list three times since 2009. Among the artists that he represents you’ll find A Kassen, Elmgreen & Dragset, E.B. Itso, Jesper Just, David Shrigley and Alexander Tovborg.

The museum-like ambitions could be felt this summer when the gallery showed a presentation of the belgian artist Guillaume Bijl’s works. In one of the exhibition halls Bijl had build up the immersive Miss Copenhagen Beauty installation that imitates the setup from a beauty contest, completed with stage, judge table, posters, palms, gold and glitter.
